Agate Alley Bistro has made itself at home in Eugene's Fairmount neighborhood — and the neighborhood has done the same in return.
A Bistro That Belongs
Agate Alley Bistro has been part of the Fairmount neighborhood for more than thirteen years, operating as what owner Dug Beaird describes as a full-service neighborhood bistro. The restaurant is tucked into a residential stretch of the neighborhood, and that setting has shaped its identity from the start.
Brunch, Bloody Marys, and a Menu That Keeps Moving
Beaird takes obvious pride in the brunch program, which he says the team works hard to keep fresh and inventive after all these years. A serve-yourself Bloody Mary bar has been a long-running crowd favorite when circumstances have allowed it. The interior reflects the same spirit: quirky and eclectic by design, assembled to feel at home in Eugene as much as in the Fairmount neighborhood specifically.
“It's a very quirky, eclectic atmosphere that we have designed here, and I think it fits not just in our local neighborhood here, but Eugene as well — it kind of reflects a lot of the values and attitudes that Eugenians have.”

A Second Chapter Down the Street
A few years ago Beaird and a partner opened Hey Neighbor Pizza House nearby, a project the two had discussed for some time before the right opportunity appeared. The pizza place has been running for about two and a half years and has found its own following. The two spots, close enough to share a neighborhood, give the area a pair of distinct places to land.
Why Eugene, Why Here
When Beaird talks about what keeps him here, he points to the university's presence in the neighborhood and to a city culture that he says welcomes people from different backgrounds and embraces counterculture. Three patios mean that when the Oregon sun arrives, there are plenty of outdoor seats to enjoy it from. In his words, it is simply a great feel-good, laid-back town with a lot of things to do.
