Books, Yoga, and the Spirit of Neighborliness: Coburg Commons Finds a Home in a Historic Church

A nonprofit bookstore and event venue in Coburg is turning a longtime Methodist church into a gathering place for the whole community.

A New Life for an Old Sanctuary

Coburg Commons occupies the historic home of Coburg United Methodist Church, a congregation that gathered on the site for more than 70 years. The building now houses a community bookstore and event venue run as a nonprofit, with a straightforward purpose: cultivate community and the common good in a small town that can sometimes feel like it exists just outside the frame of a larger world.

More Than a Bookstore

Programming at Coburg Commons runs well beyond the shelves. Yoga is offered six times a week, and the venue hosts a community choir, book clubs, workshops, author events, and movie nights. The range reflects a deliberate philosophy: that a bookstore, at its best, is really about creativity, learning, and discovery.

“Books for all ages, stages, and wages.”

Eight Minutes from Eugene, a World of Its Own

Coburg sits close enough to Eugene to make a quick trip practical, but far enough away to feel like somewhere distinct. The owner describes that balance plainly: expansive views, big skies, and the ability to walk to most of what you need in town, while Eugene's amenities are only about eight minutes down the road.
