On the McKenzie River, Every Rapid Comes With a Better Story

High Country Expeditions has been running rafting trips out of McKenzie Bridge since 1999, putting guests on one of the cleanest stretches of river in the Pacific Northwest.

A River Company Rooted in One Place

High Country Expeditions started in 1999 in McKenzie Bridge and has built its identity around a single river. The McKenzie is the focus, and the guides know it well enough to let the water do most of the talking.

What Makes the McKenzie Different

The river's reputation rests on its clarity. The surrounding landscape, old-growth trees, intact forest, and wildlife visible from the water, gives the trip a character that is harder to find on more trafficked waterways.

“On any given day I could be out skiing or fishing or rafting or doing something out in the woods, hiking, mountain biking. There's kind of a little bit of everything for anybody to do around here.”

A Small Town With a Long Outdoor Season

McKenzie Bridge is, by any measure, a small community. In winter the population thins and neighbors know one another quickly. In summer it draws visitors, but the surrounding country is large enough that solitude is still easy to find.

Come for the Day, Remember It for a While

High Country Expeditions is a straightforward proposition: a guide, a raft, a river, and a few hours away from a screen. The McKenzie handles the scenery without any help.
