On the Water, Under the Sky: SUP Yoga Brings a New Dimension to Eugene's Outdoor Life
Paddleboard yoga invites locals to trade studio walls for open water and reconnect with nature in the heart of the city.
Yoga, Reimagined on a Paddleboard
SUP Yoga with Jess Donahue puts practitioners on a paddleboard in the middle of a pond, sky above, water below, and no walls in sight. The practice pairs the stillness of yoga with the gentle instability of the board, which, as Donahue explains, actually makes it more approachable than it sounds. Because the center of gravity stays low and the movements are slow and deliberate, very few participants end up in the water.
A Practice That Fits Where It Lands
Donahue describes feeling genuinely at home in Eugene, and the setting seems to reinforce that. The ability to reach water, trees, and a feeling of being off the grid without leaving the city is something she returns to as a real gift of living here. That sense of accessible nature is woven into how the class is designed and what it is meant to offer.
“To be able to get that feeling of away and forest bathing and replenished by nature in the heart of the city is so incredible, and it's such a gift.”

What Eugene Makes Possible
One of the things Donahue comes back to is how Eugene compresses distance. Mountains, forests, rivers, and open sky are all close, and even in the center of town a person can find what she calls forest bathing and replenishment by nature. That proximity shapes what kinds of businesses and experiences can take root here.
